Yes! The town of Robe was occupied by hundreds of miners and railroad workers, but it vanished after rains in steep Robe Canyon washed away the train tracks that led to the town. When the precious resources that predicated the town were depleted, the place vanished.
Near Robe is also the former mining town of Monte Cristo. Once billed as the greatest silver district in the Western Hemisphere, Monte Cristo perished due to flooding and the collapse of infrastructure and resources. It is now desolate place filled with mining shacks and a reputation for paranormal activity. Visitors have reported hearing ghostly voices and experiencing unexplained cold spots. Well before landing blockbuster roles on films such as “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Jurassic World,” Chris Pratt of Lake Stevens painted and signed a mural on the wall at Omega Pizza and Pasta in Granite Falls. Pratt used to work at Omega Pizza during high school and was paid by the owners to create the now-famous artwork. Grab a pie and check it out when you’re in Granite Falls.
