Where to get good coffee in Snohomish, Washington
This is an exciting time for the coffee scene in Snohomish, WA. In the past few months, two new third wave coffee shops have opened their hearts, doors, and portafilters to the public. We couldn’t be more excited.
What follows is our first-hand experiences at these new coffee shops, plus some old favorites. Here's what to expect.
Visible Coffee Roasters
1118 1st Street
Located in a tall brick building that screams “historic Snohomish charm,” the newest coffee shop in town is serving up not only coffee, but also winer, beer, cider, gelato, and affogato. (For the uninitiated, affogato is espresso shots pulled on top of gelato. So good it’s ridiculous)
It’s easy to see why this two-story coffeehouse is filled from floor level to loft with college-age students and young professionals doing the WiFi WFH.
What to expect:
- a muted modern color scheme
-classy drinking vessels
-mini murals of abstract shapes, natural light
-pour over coffee
-quiet study/work atmosphere
Snohomish Coffee Co.
801 1st Street
The other new kid in town, Snohomish Coffee Co., fills a space left by the beloved Looking Glass Coffee (RIP). The new tenant has brightened the place up considerably. Whereas Looking Glass had deep booths and dark colors, Snohomish Coffee Co. Comes in swinging hard with blonde woods, plenty of natural light, minimalist furniture, and a modern drink menu that values craftsmanship over syruped drinks.
What to expect:
-great, friendly customer service (they even let you pour your own desired amount of cream!)
-hip merch, including seasonal flowers from nearby farms
-a quiet, pass-the-morning atmosphere
-great crema
-quality not-coffee specialty beverage options
Proper Joe
1101 1st Street
An older establishment in town, Proper Joe is still a good bet for great coffee. They roast their coffee themselves, and the quality is obvious in every sip of your Americano. Located in a small section of a historic building, Proper Joe’s in a cozy place to pass the afternoon, catching up with a friend on those days when the fog seems thicker and the day moves slow. And, if the weather’s agreeable, you won’t be sorry if you walk the trail by the Snohomish River with a steaming to-go cup of joe in hand.
Seems only proper.
What to expect:
-a well-roasted cup of coffee
-quality tea selection, if that's your speed
-views of First Street (for people watching)
-tasty pastries
-local art
Bakery at First and Union
101 Union Avenue
Love carbs? We got you. Especially after a long day in the bike saddle on the Centennial Trail. Get your caffeine fix and a delightful from-scratch-daily pastry.
What to expect:
-delicious baked goods, made from scratch daily
-shorter lines
-soups, salads, and an open-air dining patio
