Salish Coast Itinerary: Day 1
Where else in the Pacific Northwest can you experience a bustling metropolis and an idyllic seaside town within minutes of each other? The answer lies within Snohomish County’s southern coastal cities of Edmonds and Lynnwood. Here, you can access the best of local culture without the big-city prices or hassle. You can also spend your day beachcombing, scuba diving, or fishing on the pier.
Join us for a taste of unrivaled fresh-catch seafood and take in the stunning views aboard one of the many iconic vessels connected to the world’s second largest ferry system.
On the coast with the most, your options for day of wonder are as vast as the Salish Sea itself.
Edmonds
Edmonds is known for its seaside views, walkable waterfront, and sandy beaches, but it’s art that runs through the veins of this city. Edmonds is home to Washington State’s first Creative District designation. Breathe in the briny sea air and the creative energy flowing through this creative community with a visit to the Cascadia Art Museum, Edmonds Center for the Arts, or the Graphite Arts Center. The list of creative venues is extensive in Edmonds.
After feeding your soul with art, you’ll need to feed your belly. The tide-to-table menus in Edmonds are among the freshest on the planet. Get the PNW lobster roll from MARKET Edmonds, one of the many surf and turf dishes at Salt & Iron, or sushi from a world-class chef at SanKai. Whichever one you choose, you’ll be satisfied. Better yet, try them all. You only live once!
Walk off your meal with a stroll through the boutiques, galleries, and small businesses of downtown Edmonds. Some of our favorites include The Curious Nest, HouseWares, and Musicology Co.
Lynnwood
When it comes to Lynnwood, your best bet is to learn its three imperatives: eat, shop, stay — all for a fraction of the prices in Seattle.
Lynnwood boasts a thriving and proud Asian American community — it’s influence on local cuisine is undeniable — and delicious. Katsu Burger and Tofu House are a couple of our tried-and-true favorites. Give your taste buds a change of pace at Chops Lynnwood for Asian fusion burritos and bowls. If you’re really adventurous, you can visit Sushi Hana to have a robot serve you sushi. Lynnwood even has Snohomish County’s only H-Mart.
If you’re looking for that classic American shopping mall experience, Alderwood Mall has it all. You’ll find popular stores and restaurants throughout the mall’s massive indoor space, which also includes al fresco dining and shopping on its perimeter. Speaking of outdoors, Lynnwood may be an urban hub, but it also has plenty of recreation to get your heart pumping. Ride the city’s portion of the 24-mile Interubran Trail, or visit the magnificent Lynndale Park. Before you head out, gear up at REI or Gregg’s Cycle.
A big day requires some good rest. Lynnwood has over 1,000 budget-friendly rooms and suites with tons of great amenities. Our favorites include the Hilton Garden Inn and Embassy Suites by Hilton.
